He is perhaps best known for composing scores for the James Bond films. The Sound of 007 is an ambitious (if pithy at 88 minutes long) and riveting dive into the music that has dominated cinema for six decades.įrom the original theme to the classics from the likes of Paul McCartney and Shirley Bassey to a reappraisal of the divisive themes by Garbage and Jack White, Whitecross’ documentary is the first such film to really wrestle into how music makes Bond tick.īritish composer John Barry at his piano, 1967. Like millions of people all over the world, the acclaimed filmmaker’s life on planet Earth has been soundtracked by Monty Norman’s dramatically sinister guitar riff but now it’s fell to him to tell the storied history of the music behind Bond who celebrates the 60th anniversary of his film debut this week. The only songs that stand out for me on Revelation are "Never Walk Away", "Change For The Better", and "After All These Years". Hell the entire album bores the fuck out of me. With the clip is he not only trying to capture his inner Perry vocally, but also his inner Augeri with the pants Also after watching some other clips from the Live at Minilla dvd I've come to the conclusion Arnie kinda sounds like a chipmunk when he sings Perry songs.Ģ. I hear Arnel keep his vocals up in the tenor range (albeit a little huskier) and sing a Journey belting out type song, but that's about it. I don't hear any of those Perryisms I hear that Jeremey can do and Deen can do even when singing classics. Wow, really? Not one song on Revelation Disk One sounds like he's imitating Perry, to me. It's a song, where if you hear it without knowing the artist, the Journey connection doesn't instantly happen. To me, this is the only Journey song, I have heard where Arnel doesn't sound like he's imitating Perry. I definitely don't see how it departs from the Journey sound much, if at all.
